The much-anticipated Betway SA20 Season 3 is finally here. The excitement was palpable as the six team captains, joined by Commissioner Graeme Smith, addressed the media in Cape Town ahead of the tournament opener between Sunrisers Eastern Cape and MI Cape Town at St George’s Park.

Speaking at the event, Graeme Smith reflected on the growth and expectations surrounding the league, emphasizing its significant role in shaping South African cricket.

“I am very excited. Every year, reaching this point is a mix of excitement and pressure. We’ve worked exceptionally hard to get here,” Smith said. “Two seasons in, we are now an established product. Outside of the IPL, we’re arguably the biggest league. The six franchises are professional and competitive, with strong squads featuring top local and international players.

“The cricket continues to improve, and seeing players’ progression is a key highlight for me. From a fan perspective, we’ve invested heavily to ensure an inclusive, vibrant experience for everyone—kids, families, and cricket enthusiasts alike.”

The Sunrisers Eastern Cape, winners of the first two seasons, are the team to beat. Captain Aiden Markram expressed his team’s ambition to complete a hat-trick.

“It’s an honor to be compared to the Springboks’ back-to-back Rugby World Cup wins. We’re excited to go for a third title this season. However, nothing is guaranteed—it’s a highly competitive tournament. Hopefully, we can achieve something special in a month’s time.”

Durban’s Super Giants, last season’s runners-up, are optimistic about their chances with key additions like New Zealand’s Kane Williamson. Captain Keshav Maharaj highlighted the value Williamson brings.

“I’m eager to learn from someone like Kane. His experience as a leader and his success worldwide offer invaluable insights. I’m looking forward to working with him this season.”

Joburg Super Kings skipper Faf du Plessis is confident the team’s new signings—Jonny Bairstow, Devon Conway, and Matheesha Pathirana—alongside Tabraiz Shamsi, will strengthen their campaign.

“These are four top-quality players. Combined with our balanced squad, we’re well-equipped for a strong season,” said Du Plessis.

MI Cape Town captain Rashid Khan, returning after missing last season due to injury, shared his optimism.

“Our players have been performing well leading up to SA20, and I’m excited to see how they contribute to our campaign. Everyone is ready and motivated to deliver their best for MI Cape Town,” Rashid remarked.

Paarl Royals captain David Miller, expecting his first child during the tournament, is hopeful for a season of double celebration.

“It’s been an incredible journey over the past two seasons. The competitiveness and energy in the stadiums are unmatched. I’m looking forward to another exciting season,” Miller said.

Meanwhile, Rilee Rossouw, leading the Pretoria Capitals for the first time, is eager to foster a competitive environment under the guidance of head coach Jonathan Trott. The Capitals are also anticipating the return of fast bowler Anrich Nortje.

“Our goal is to play positive and competitive cricket, just as we have in previous seasons. We’re optimistic about the recovery of key players in our bowling attack, who are progressing well,” Rossouw explained.

With such an array of talent and anticipation, Betway SA20 Season 3 promises to elevate South African cricket and deliver thrilling action to fans across the globe
